MOW 45 yr Anniversary Cake Picture

To provide nutritionally balanced meals to homebound individuals who live alone or with another disabled person, and who, due to illness or disability, cannot prepare adequate meals, and to provide a daily check on the client.

PROGRAM

Meals on Wheels of Evansville is a not-for-profit, primarily volunteer organization that provides hot, nutritious meals to the homebound. This is a noon meal delivered five days a week. The meals are prepared at the two local hospitals and delivered by a team of 72 volunteers. The meals are prepared under the direction of the dietary department and special diets can be accommodated. Each client fills out an application which is signed by his/her physician, giving MOW a diet order. There is usually no waiting period once the application is received. Eligibility requirements for the program are as follows:

  • Client must be essentially homebound;
  • Client must live within the city limits of Evansville (some flexibility);
  • An application form must be completed and signed by both the applicant and the physician.
  • There is a minimum charge of $18.00 per week per person to recover the cost of the food.
  • ACTIVITIES

    In 2019, 268 clients were served. Meals on Wheels delivered 23,926 meals. Birthday gifts, which are provided by the Altrusa International Club, were delivered to each client on their birthday.
